21 Apr ROUND 1 – Port Elizabeth
Round 1 of the South African Motocross Championship was held in Port Elizabeth this past weekend. After 4 months of hard training it was finally time to put everything we had worked on the line.
Qualifying – with a 10 min practice/qualifying session and 30 riders on the track it was very difficult to get a clean lap in, I qualified in 7th which I was not happy with but the times were very close from 1st to 10th only 3 seconds separated us. I knew I could do much better in the races.
Moto 1 – I got a great start and by the end of the first lap I was in 3rd place, I swopped positions with 2nd place numerous times, after going back and forth with 2nd place I lost the edge of 2nd and was now in 3rd place. With about 6 mins to go in the race I started to get pressure from 4th place, I started riding very tight and had bad lines and was getting flusted. By the end of the race I had fallen back to 6th. I was not happy with this result as I had thrown away a podium finish.
Moto 2 – after regrouping after a bad first moto I was motivated the ever to redeem myself, I didn’t get the best of jumps off the start and got boxed out of the first corner, after the first lap I found myself in 18th place, I put my head down and charged the whole moto, when the chequered flag came out I found myself in 6th place close on 5th place heels. I was happy with this race as I fixed my mistakes from the first race but was still disappointed with the result.
Overall – 5th
Championship – 5th (34 pts)
Time to put my head down and train hard for the next round in Cape Town on the 8th of April
Thank you for all your support and help!
