Alfie Cox Motul KTM Team race Report – Round 2 Cape Town

Round 2 of the South African motocross championship was held in Cape Town last weekend with hot and dry conditions providing tough racing conditions for all the riders during the days racing.

Wyatt Avis #50 MX1

1st race – a 3rd place start for Wyatt put him in a great position and soon after the second corner he manged to get into 2nd place. Unfortunately another rider made an aggressive move a few corners later, which caused Wyatt to crash out. Wyatt managed to regather himself and charged his way back to a 10th place finish.

2nd race – Wyatt was able to get another good start in the top 5, however he began suffering from stomach spasms and cramps which affected his breathing and was forced to stop. He has been to hospital and we’re hoping for a speedy recovery ahead of the next round.

overall – 12th

Brett Bircher #30 MX3

1st race – Brett managed to get the ‘holeshot’ and lead the race until halfway stage. A few mistakes caused him to drop to 3rd place, which he maintained to the finish.

2nd race – During the the first lap Brett had an unfortunate crash, which saw him lose many places, but he was determined to put in a good performance and charged to a 3rd place finish. A great comeback from a tough position.

overall – 3rd

Bradley Cox #34 MX2

1st race – Brad had a bad start which meant he had to come from 23rd place in a highly competitive field. Having made his way up to 8th place,  he had crash with 4 laps to go. After another determined burst Brad managed to move up through the field and finished in 7th place .

2nd race – Starting in 11th place, Brad quickly worked his way to 6th place and maintained a smooth tempo with some smart racing tactics on very rough track to finish in 6th position.

overall – 5th

Cam Thompson #36 125 Highschool Class

1st race – Cam started in 5th place which put him in a great position in the early part of the race, after a few hard fought battles during the race he fell back to 6th position but put immense effort in to finish in 4th place.

2nd race – After a bad start, Cam was positioned outside of the top 10, but ‘gutsy’ as ever, he charged hard and worked himself up to a 7th place finish.
